Canaries, Balearics or Costas: Where Should You go for Your Spanish Break? | Boasting miles of sandy beaches, great food, year round sunshine and a rich culture, it’s no wonder that Spain is officially Britain’s favourite holiday destination.

So if you’re planning a winter break or getting in early for your summer holidays, there’s a good chance that Spain will be at the top of your list. But with so many fantastic resorts and destinations, where exactly should you head this year?

The Canary Islands

1

Lying in the Atlantic Ocean, off of the coast of Africa, the Canary Islands enjoy one of the best year-round climates anywhere in Europe. So if it’s winter sun that you’re after, this is the destination for you.

The largest and most visited islands are Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Tenerife which all offer great beaches, great weather and some truly stunning volcanic scenery.

The Balearic Islands

2

Nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean, the Balearic Islands are the first part of Spain to see the sun every morning.

Though they lack the year round sunshine of the Canaries, the Balearics have a fantastic lush landscape that makes them perfect for hiking, adventure sports and getting close to nature. The islands are also famous for their cuisine – Mayonnaise was invented on Menorca in the 17th century so make sure that you drop into a local restaurant to experience some real Balearic food.

The Spanish Costas

3

From the Costa Brava in the north to the Costa del Sol in the south, the Spanish coastline is blessed with some of the best resorts and beaches you’ll find anywhere in Europe.

A great benefit of choosing the Spanish mainland as your destination is that you can combine a beach holiday with a trip to one of Spain’s beautiful cities, giving yourself the chance to soak up some authentic Iberian culture during your trip.

The southern Costas are probably familiar for most Brits and offer a great mix of quiet beaches, vibrant bars and restaurants, and local culture – all under the ever present Spanish sun.

If you are jetting off on a Spanish adventure, most destinations and activities are covered by Thomas Cook travel insurance and you can pick up some great last minute and all-inclusive offers on their website. So what are you waiting for? The Canaries, the Costas and the Balearics are waiting for you!
