Traveling To Cape Town? Here’s What You Need To Know | Located at the southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Town is undoubtedly one of the world’s most beautiful cities. If you’re looking for travel to the Mother City, here as some things you should keep in mind:

Safety

Cape Town does have high theft and murder rates. However, before you get concerned about how safe Cape Town is just based on those stats, remember that they refer to Cape Town as a whole, and include under-developed areas as well.

If you stay in the city and outside of the dangerous locations, then you should be just fine. Remember that Cape Town is just like any other country – stay safe and keep your wits about you as you would when visiting any foreign country.

Common sense can go a long way – refrain from going out after dark by yourself or leaving your possessions unattended.

Nature

Cape Town is the site of abundant natural beauty. There is so much to see and experience for nature lovers that a short vacation is hardly enough to see everything.

Kirstenbosch is a botanical garden located below the iconic Table Mountain. Taking a lazy stroll through Kirstenbosch is a wonderful activity for the whole family – the views are incredible and there are many plant specimens to observe. And at the end of the day, you can grab something to eat or drink at one of Kirstenbosch’s restaurants. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can hike to the top of Table Mountain from Kirstenbosch as well.

And of course, there are many, many beaches to explore around Cape Town too. From long, spacious beaches like the aptly-named Long Beach in Noordhoek to the favorite of tourists, Camps Bay, to hidden, unnamed beaches – you are sure to find to fall in love with.

Shopping

If no holiday is complete for you without a shopping spree, then you’ll be pleased to note that there are many malls and shopping centers in Cape Town to suit your fancy.

V & A Waterfront is a much-beloved shopping mall located on the water’s edge. With over 450 retail outlets ranging from grocery stores, book shops, and restaurants to designer boutiques, there is something quite magical about this mall – you never know what’s just around the corner!

Canal Walk is another favorite of Capetonians built, as you can imagine, around a canal. With a total retail area of over 140 000 square meters, you’ll be tired of walking before you’ve explored this mall in its entirety!

Must-sees

With so many standout locations and activities worth doing in Cape Town, it’s hard to only pick a few. That said, here are a few that are quintessential for all visitors to Cape Town.

● The penguins at Boulders Beach in Simonstown. Boulders Beach is a penguin breeding colony and the perfect place to get see these beautiful animals up close.
● Robben Island, the prison which once housed Nelson Mandela. Accessible via boat, Robben Island offers a glimpse into the history of South Africa.
